The story

The Story of Water

I go pitter-patter on your roof and splash when you jump in puddles. I can be cold and tickle your tongue in a drink, or warm and cozy in your bathtub. I fall from the big, gray clouds as rain. I can cover the ground like a soft, white blanket as snow. Can you guess who I am? I am Water. I am your splashy friend. I am everywhere, helping you play and grow. I love to make a big splash and see you smile.

I have been helping people since the very, very beginning. Long, long ago, the first people knew they needed me to live. They built their cozy homes right next to rivers so they could always have a drink and wash their faces. I helped their tiny little seeds grow into big, yummy vegetables for them to eat. The very first big towns, which started in a place called Mesopotamia a super long time ago, were built right next to me. I let their little boats float, float, float to visit their neighbors. I helped them build their amazing communities. I gave water to all the animals, too, from the fuzzy mammoths of the Ice Age to the little birds singing in your backyard today.

Today, you and I are still the best of friends. You need me to brush your teeth to make them shiny and clean. You need me to cook yummy pasta with your family for dinner. You need me to have fun swimming on a hot, sunny day. Every person, every animal, and every plant in the whole wide world needs me. From the biggest, deepest ocean to the tiniest little drop on a flower petal, I am here to help everyone live, play, and grow. So next time you take a cool sip, remember me, your splashy, wonderful friend, Water.
