They were made from special wood blocks. You can see the dark lines and happy colors all together. I am a book. My name is 'A Story, A Story'. I have a wonderful tale to tell you. It is a story about stories.

A kind and clever artist named Gail E. Haley made me. She made me a long, long time ago, in the year 1970. Gail heard a very old story from Africa. It was about a spider man named Anansi who was very tricky and very smart. To tell his story, she did something special. She carved pretty pictures into pieces of wood. Then, she rolled bright ink onto the wood and pressed it gently onto my pages. It was like she was making a big, colorful stamp. She wanted you to know how stories first came into the world for everyone to share.

My story is all about Anansi’s big, big adventure. He goes on a journey up to the sky. He wants to get a golden box full of stories from the Sky God. Anansi is clever. He plays smart tricks to get the box of stories for everyone on Earth. For many years, children have smiled and cheered for him. Every time you open my sunny yellow cover and read my pages, you help let the stories out. You fill the world with fun and wonder, just like Anansi did.
