The story

The Book on the Big River

Hello. I am a story waiting for you. Before I had a cover, I was just an idea. An idea about a big, big river and a little wooden raft. Can you see it? Two friends are floating on the water. The sun is warm and the stars are bright at night. I am made of paper and ink, but when you open me, you can hear the river go splash, splash, splash. I am a big adventure. I am the book, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

A man with a big, fluffy white mustache wrote my story. His name was Mark Twain. He loved the big river and wanted to share it with you. He used his pen to write all about a boy named Huck and his good friend, Jim. He started writing my words in the year 1876. It took him a long, long time, but he wanted my story to be just right. He wanted you to know that friends help each other and that being kind is very important.

Long, long ago, on December 10th, 1884, the very first children opened my pages. They went on the big adventure with Huck and Jim. Since that day, I have sat on many shelves in many houses, just waiting. I wait for new friends like you to pick me up. When you open my cover, we can float down the river together. My story shows that the best adventures are the ones we share with a friend.
