Just want Aeneid?
Before I was a book, I was a whisper of adventure. I was the sound of waves crashing against a wooden ship, the salty smell of the sea, and the terrible sight of a great city burning against a dark sky. I was the feeling of a hero's heavy heart as he carried his elderly father on his shoulders and led his young son by the hand, leaving his home behind forever. Their journey was long and dangerous, guided by gods and destiny, as they searched for a new place to call home. This grand, important journey across the sea was just the beginning of a story that would shape an empire. I am that story, woven from powerful words and captured on ancient scrolls. I am the Aeneid.
My creator was a thoughtful poet named Virgil, who lived long ago in the mighty Roman Empire. He began to breathe life into me around the year 29 BCE. It was a time of great change, and the leader of Rome, the very first emperor, Augustus, had a special request. He wanted a magnificent story for his people, a tale that would connect them to the legendary heroes of the past and fill them with pride for their city. Emperor Augustus knew that a great story could be as strong as any army. So, for eleven years, from 29 BCE until 19 BCE, Virgil worked carefully. He chose every single word to paint pictures in the minds of his readers. Pictures of epic battles between armies, of powerful gods meddling in the lives of humans, and of a hero, Aeneas, who had to make difficult choices. But a sad thing happened. In the year 19 BCE, Virgil passed away before he felt I was truly perfect. He had even asked for me to be destroyed. But Emperor Augustus knew my story was too important to lose. He saved me, making sure my adventures could be shared with the world.

My purpose was to give the Roman people their own amazing origin story. I told them that their great city, Rome, was founded by the descendants of a true hero. I connected their history all the way back to Aeneas, a brave survivor of the famous Trojan War. Can you imagine learning that your ancestors were legendary warriors from a city of myths. For Roman children, I became one of the most important books in their schools. As they read my lines, they learned about their history, practiced their language, Latin, and understood what it meant to be a good, dutiful Roman citizen. My hero, Aeneas, was a perfect example. He always put his duty to his people and the gods first, even when it was hard. He showed everyone, from soldiers on the battlefield to emperors in the palace, how to face challenges with courage and perseverance for hundreds of years.
My journey did not end when the mighty Roman Empire eventually fell. My words, copied by hand onto new scrolls and pages, traveled through time. I slept in quiet monasteries and busy libraries, waiting for new readers to find me. And they did. I inspired new poets, painters, and dreamers for centuries. A famous Italian writer named Dante Alighieri loved my story so much that he made my creator, Virgil, a character in his own epic poem. So you see, I am much more than an old poem about battles and gods. I am a reminder that new beginnings can rise from ashes, and that true strength is about carrying on, no matter what. Every time someone reads my lines today, the adventure begins all over again, connecting them to a heroic story that has been shared for over two thousand years.
