I Am Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
Hello. Can you hear the rustle of my pages? I smell like old paper and fresh ink. I am a secret door to a magical place. Open me up and let's go on an adventure. Inside me, you can find talking animals. You can find silly tea parties. You can find a world where everything is wonderfully mixed up. I am a book, and my name is Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. I hold a story about a curious girl named Alice. One day, she follows a White Rabbit with a pocket watch. She tumbles down, down, down into a world of pure imagination.
A kind man with a big imagination made me. His name was Lewis Carroll. He loved telling stories to children. On a sunny boat ride on July 4th, 1862, he told my story for the very first time. He told it to three little sisters. One of them was named Alice. She loved my story so much. She said, “Please, please write it down.”. So, he carefully wrote out all my words. He even drew funny pictures to go with them. He worked for a long, long time. Finally, in the year 1865, I was a real book. I was ready for children everywhere to read and dream about my adventures.
For many, many years, children have opened my cover to meet all my friends. They meet the Cheshire Cat with his big, happy grin. They meet the Mad Hatter with his silly riddles and his tall hat. I show them that it's fun to be curious. It is fun to imagine things that could never happen in real life. I am more than just a story. I am an invitation to dream. I will always be here, waiting on a shelf to take you on an adventure. Let's go to a world where anything is possible.
