The story

The Whispering Cave Walls

Deep, deep underground, where it's always cool and quiet, I am a secret waiting on a rocky wall. I am the shape of a strong bison, a galloping horse, and a big, fuzzy mammoth. For a very long time, nobody knew I was here, sleeping in the dark. I am a story told not with words, but with pictures. I am the Cave Paintings. My colors are warm red and sunny yellow, and my shapes dance on the stone. I love when you imagine the animals running and playing right here in the quiet dark. I am a happy surprise for everyone to find.

I was made a very, very long time ago, even before your grandparents' grandparents were born, more than 17,000 years ago. Clever people made me. They didn't have paper or crayons like you do. They used their fingers and soft moss to paint me with red dirt, yellow clay, and black charcoal from their fires. It was dark in the cave, so they used torches to see. By the flickering firelight, they drew the amazing animals they saw outside. They were telling stories about their world and their great hunts right on my stone canvas, making me special and full of wonder for everyone who would see me one day.

For thousands and thousands of years, I kept my stories safe in the silent cave. I was a secret that waited and waited. Then one day, people from your time found me. It was like finding a secret message from the past. Now, I show everyone that even long, long ago, people loved to create and share their imagination, just like you. My animals still run across the walls, whispering a happy hello from a time long ago. I hope I remind you to tell your own wonderful stories with your own beautiful pictures.
