The Story of the English Fairy Tales
Before you could read me in a book, I was a whisper in the wind and a story told by a warm fire. I am made of giggling fairies, grumpy giants who stomp their feet, and brave children who outsmart big, bad wolves. For hundreds of years, families shared my adventures out loud. I didn't live on paper. I lived in their voices and their memories. I am the English Fairy Tales, and my magic has been passed down for a very, very long time.
One day, a kind man named Joseph Jacobs worried that my stories might be forgotten. Around the year 1890, he traveled all around England, listening to people tell my tales. He carefully wrote them down so children everywhere could enjoy them. He wrote about a boy named Jack who climbed a giant beanstalk and about three little pigs who built cozy houses. He put them all together in a book so I could be safe forever.
Today, I still live in bedtime stories and cozy reading corners. You can find my brave heroes and silly giants in books, movies, and songs. I remind you to be clever, kind, and courageous. My greatest magic is that I can be told again and again, and every time, I bring a little sparkle of wonder into your world, just for you.
