The story

A Story in My Heart

Before I had pages or a cover, I was an idea, a little story living inside a very clever lady's imagination. I was a feeling of giggles at a big party, and a whisper about a funny girl named Elizabeth and a quiet boy named Mr. Darcy. They didn't like each other at first, but I knew a secret. I am a book, and my name is Pride and Prejudice. I was a happy thought waiting to be shared with the whole wide world.

My friend, Jane Austen, wrote my story with a feather pen and a pot of dark ink. She lived in a cozy house in England a long, long time ago. She started dreaming me up in 1797. It took many years of writing and thinking, but on January 28th, 1813, I was finally a real book with a beautiful cover. Jane wanted my story to show everyone that your first idea about someone might not be right. You have to look inside their heart to be real friends and understand them.

For over 200 years, people have opened my cover to meet Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. They read my story in comfy chairs and in sunny gardens. Children and grown-ups have followed my words and learned that it's more important to be kind than to be proud. I love showing everyone that listening and understanding can help you find a wonderful friend. My story is a happy reminder that the best adventures are the ones you find in your heart and inside a good book.
