The Book That Speaks

Can you hear that. It’s a whisper on the desert wind in a land called Arabia. It sounds like a gentle river of words, flowing with secrets about being kind and living in peace. The words tell stories about the shiny stars, the big round Earth, and all the people who live on it. The sound is beautiful and full of wonder. What could it be. It’s me. I am the Quran, which means ‘the recitation.’ My story is about how my words came to be heard and shared with the whole world.

My words were first heard by a very kind and thoughtful man named Muhammad. He lived in a city called Mecca. One day, around the year 610, he began to hear my messages. It was like a special song only he could hear. For 23 years, he listened very carefully. Muhammad shared my words with his friends and family. They thought my words were so important that they memorized them, which means they kept them perfectly in their minds. But they also wanted to make sure my words would never fly away on the wind. So they wrote my verses down on anything they could find. They used smooth, flat stones, wide, green palm leaves, and even soft pieces of leather. They worked hard to keep every single word safe so that others could hear my message too.

Many years passed, and then, in the year 632, Muhammad passed away. His friends and followers were sad, but they knew they had a very important job to do. They wanted to make sure my message would never, ever be lost. A wise leader named Uthman ibn Affan had a wonderful idea. He asked everyone to bring all the written pieces they had—the stones, the leaves, and the leather. He also listened to the people who had memorized my verses. Around the year 650, they carefully put all my words together into a single, beautiful book. That is how I became the book you can see and hold today.

Once I was a book, my journey really began. My words traveled across hot deserts and over big blue oceans. People learned to write my verses with special, flowing art called calligraphy. This made my pages look as beautiful as my message sounded. I was shared in homes, in schools, and in special buildings called mosques. For millions of people, I became a friend who gave them comfort when they were sad and guidance when they were lost. My stories taught them to be fair to everyone, to care for people who needed help, and to always keep learning about the amazing world around them.

Today, my voice is still heard all around the world. When people read my pages or recite my verses out loud, they are sharing the same message of kindness and peace that was first heard on the desert wind so long ago. I remind everyone to be good to each other, to share what they have, and to live together happily. I am a book of wonder that connects people across time, helping them feel close to God and to one another.
