Just want Rhind Mathematical Papyrus?
Hello there. I was born near the big, flowing Nile river. I was made from a tall, green plant called papyrus. For many, many years, I was rolled up tight like a secret map. On my smooth, light-brown skin are little drawings in black and red ink. They look like tiny birds, wiggly lines, and special shapes. But they are not just pictures. They are secret numbers and puzzles. For a very, very long time, I slept in the warm, sandy dark. I am the Rhind Mathematical Papyrus.
A kind man named Ahmes wrote on me a very, very long time ago, around the year 1550 BCE. He was a scribe, which was a very important job like a teacher and a writer. He used a tiny brush made from a reed to carefully paint all the puzzles on me. The puzzles were for students, just like you. They helped them learn how to share bread fairly among their friends. They learned how to measure big fields for planting yummy food. They even learned how to figure out the right shapes to build the giant, pointy pyramids that touched the sky.
After a long, quiet sleep in an old city called Thebes, I was found in the 1850s by a man from Scotland named Alexander Henry Rhind. He knew I was a special treasure. Today, I live in a big museum in London where people from all over the world can come and see me. Even though I am very old, my number puzzles show us how people long ago used math to build their amazing world. Numbers are like a secret code that connects us all, from way back then to you, right now.
