Apollo 11 Mission

Hello there. My name is Neil Armstrong, and I was an astronaut, which is like a sky explorer. I want to tell you about a very special trip I took a long, long time ago. My friends, Buzz and Michael, and I were getting ready to go to the Moon. We were going to ride in a giant rocket ship called the Saturn V. It was so tall, it almost touched the clouds. Before we could go, I had to put on my special clothes, a big, puffy white spacesuit and a round helmet like a fishbowl, so I could breathe in space.

On July 16th, 1969, it was time to go. I climbed into the rocket ship with my friends. Then, whoosh. The whole ship started to shake and rumble. It was a big, rumbly shake that lifted us up, up, up into the sky. Soon, we were floating inside our spaceship. It felt like swimming in the air. I looked out the little window and saw so many sparkly stars. Our home, the Earth, looked like a beautiful blue and white marble, and it got smaller and smaller as we flew farther away. After a few days, Buzz and I got into a smaller ship called the Eagle. It was our job to land on the Moon while Michael flew our main ship all by himself.

On July 20th, 1969, we landed. The Eagle touched the Moon's soft, dusty ground very gently. I was so excited. I opened the door and climbed down a little ladder. Then, I took a step. I was the very first person to ever walk on the Moon. It was so quiet and beautiful. The ground was gray and dusty, and because there wasn't much gravity, I could bounce and hop like I was on a giant trampoline. Buzz and I planted our country's flag to show we had visited. After our moonwalk, we flew back home safely. My trip showed everyone that if you dream big and work hard, you can do amazing things, even visit the Moon.
