General Ike's Big Plan
Hello there. My name is Dwight D. Eisenhower, but my friends called me Ike. A long, long time ago, I had a very important job. I was a general. That means I was the leader of a big team of helpers. During that time, some countries were having a big disagreement, and it was making people sad. Our friends in a country called France needed our help. So, I made a special plan. My plan was to send thousands of our bravest helpers across the big, big water in boats and airplanes. We were going to surprise everyone and help make things right again. It was a giant secret, and we all worked together to get ready.
Then, the big day came. It was very early in the morning on June 6th, 1944. I watched as our plan started. The sky above was filled with so many airplanes, they looked like a giant flock of birds flying together. And the sea. Oh, the sea was covered with boats. There were big boats and small boats, all filled with our helpers, bobbing on the waves. It was a little noisy and very busy, but everyone knew their job. Everyone was part of one big team. I felt so proud of them. They were so brave, going to help our friends who were far away. It was a sight I would never, ever forget.
Our brave helpers made it all the way to the beaches in France, a place called Normandy. Our big plan was working. They were strong and worked together, just like we had practiced. This special day was the beginning of the end of the big disagreement. It was the start of everyone becoming friends again. I learned that when people work together as a team and are brave for what is right, they can do amazing things to make the world a better and safer place for everyone to share.
