Just want First Olympic Games?
Hello. My name is Lycinus, and I live in a sunny place called Greece. A long, long time ago, my family and I went on a special trip. We walked and walked until we reached a beautiful place called Olympia. It was for a big festival to say thank you to the great god Zeus. There were so many people there, all smiling and talking. Everyone was so excited. My best friend, Koroibos, was excited too. He was going to be in a super-fast running race. It was the very first one ever. I couldn’t wait to watch him run. I hoped he would be the fastest of all.
We found a spot to sit in the big stadium. The sun was warm on my face and I could hear everyone buzzing like happy bees. I saw Koroibos standing with the other runners. They all looked strong and ready to go. A loud trumpet sound went “Toot.”. and they started to run. Go, Koroibos, go. I shouted as loud as I could. His feet went so fast, thump, thump, thump on the dirt path. Little clouds of dust puffed up behind him. He ran faster than anyone. He was almost at the end. I held my breath and cheered with all my might for my wonderful friend.
He did it. Koroibos won the race. He was the first winner ever. Everyone cheered and clapped. I felt so happy and so proud of my friend. He didn't get a toy or a snack for winning. He got something even better. It was a beautiful crown made from the green leaves of an olive tree. It was a special sign of peace. The games were a time for everyone to be friends and play together, just like the Olympics we still have today.
