Boi-Bumbá Festival - Brazilian

Hello! I am the Boi-Bumbá Festival! In the country of Brazil, people know me as a big, colorful party. I am all about telling a very special story. It is an old tale about a magical ox. In this story, the ox is so loved, and something amazing happens—it comes back to life! It is a very happy ending. To share this happy tale, people get together to celebrate. They sing wonderful songs out loud for everyone to hear. They dance to the music, moving their feet and arms. They also wear bright costumes with so many beautiful colors, like red, blue, and yellow. It is a joyful way to tell the story of the ox.

Two teams help tell my story. They have a friendly competition to see who can put on the best show. One team is called Garantido, and their special color is red. The other team is called Caprichoso, and their special color is blue. Each team works very hard to get ready. They build giant, amazing floats. These floats are like big, decorated stages that move in the parade. Both teams put on a fantastic show for everyone to watch. They want to tell the story of the ox in the most fun and exciting way they possibly can.

People come to a very special place to celebrate me. This place is a big arena, and its name is the Bumbódromo. It’s a building made just for my parades! Inside, the friends of the red team, Garantido, sit all together on one side of the arena. The friends of the blue team, Caprichoso, sit together on the other side. My celebration lasts for three whole nights! For all three nights, everyone cheers loudly for their favorite team. They sing along with the songs and watch the wonderful parades go by. It is how my story is told.
