Just want Carnival of Binche - Belgian?
Hello! I am the Carnival of Binche. I am a very special and happy time in a country called Belgium. People celebrate with me for three days. The first two days are full of fun, but the third day is the best of all! This last, most exciting day has a special name. It is called Mardi Gras. Everyone looks forward to this big day of parades and celebration.
During my celebration, you will see my most famous figures. They are called the Gilles. The Gilles wear very special costumes that are amazing to look at. Their outfits have lots of bright, happy colors. On their feet, they wear shoes made from wood. When they walk, their wooden shoes make a loud clomping sound! In the morning of the parade, the Gilles wear masks on their faces. These masks are made of wax. Later in the day, they take off the masks and put on something even bigger. They wear huge hats on their heads! These hats are very tall and are covered in beautiful, fluffy ostrich feathers.
My last day, Mardi Gras, has a wonderful parade. The Gilles march all together through the streets. Loud music plays while they walk, making everyone feel joyful. In their arms, the Gilles carry big baskets. Do you know what is inside the baskets? Oranges! As they march, the Gilles toss the round, orange fruits to the people watching the parade. Catching an orange is a special gift. It is a gift of good luck. It is a happy and fun way for people to celebrate me.
