Hello! I am a special day in Poland. My name is Fat Thursday. People celebrate me by eating many yummy, sweet treats. It is a day full of happiness, when friends and family get together to share delicious food. Smiles are everywhere as people enjoy the special foods that are made just for me.
On my day, the most special treat of all is a kind of doughnut. It is called a pączek. If you have more than one, they are called pączki. These treats are so soft and perfectly round. Inside, there is often a sweet surprise like yummy fruit jam. All across Poland, bakeries become very busy places when I arrive. Bakers work hard to make lots of fresh pączki for everyone to eat. The shops are filled with people excited to buy these wonderful doughnuts for their families.
I am like one last big party before a quiet time begins. This is why people eat so many sweet and rich foods on my day. It is a way to have a big feast and lots of fun together. After I am over, the days become quieter, with simpler foods. So, I am a day for feasting and fun before those quiet days start. It is a happy way for everyone to celebrate together.
