The story

Brazil's Happy Birthday

Hello there! I am Brazilian Independence Day. I am a very special day for the country of Brazil. You can think of me as a big, happy birthday party for the whole country! It’s true. A very, very long time ago, on my day, Brazil became its own country. It was a very important and happy moment for all the people living there. That is why I am a day for celebration and remembering. When I arrive each year, people feel proud of their home. It's a wonderful day to think about this beautiful country.

So, how do people in Brazil celebrate me? They have wonderful parades outside on the streets! Lots of people come to watch. During my parades, you can see soldiers marching in their smart uniforms. They walk together, step by step, looking very proud. You can also hear exciting music everywhere. Bands play loud, happy songs on big drums and shiny trumpets. Boom, boom, boom! The cheerful music fills the air. People stand along the streets, waving and smiling as the parade goes by.

My celebration is full of bright colors! On this day, you will see the colors of Brazil all around. These special colors are green, yellow, and blue. They are the colors of the Brazilian flag. People wave small flags in their hands, and big flags fly on buildings. Many people also dress up in green, yellow, and blue clothes to show they love their country. A green shirt, a yellow hat, or a blue ribbon makes the day feel even more festive. Seeing all these beautiful colors everywhere is a happy way for people to celebrate Brazil’s special birthday.
