Hello! I am Kupala Night, a special summer celebration in Ukraine. I arrive when the days are very long and the nights are very short. My celebration is a time for people to honor the bright sun, the cool water, and all the green plants that grow during the summer. It is a happy time to enjoy the warm weather and the beauty of nature.
During my celebration, people love to be outside. Girls and women gather pretty flowers and fragrant herbs. They carefully weave them together to make beautiful wreaths to wear in their hair. These colorful crowns are a special part of the day. Sometimes, they let the wreaths float away on a river, watching them drift on the water. People also share a fun story about a magical fern flower. The story says this special flower only blooms for a moment on my night.
Today, families and friends still gather to celebrate me. When the sun goes down, they light big, warm bonfires that glow in the dark. Everyone gathers around the fire to sing happy songs and dance together. Some brave people even jump over the flames of the bonfire! It is a tradition that they believe brings them good luck and keeps them healthy for the whole year.
