Just want Labor Day - American?
Hello! I am Labor Day. I am a special holiday for all the people who work hard every day. Think about all the workers who help us. Builders make strong houses, and farmers grow delicious food to eat. Teachers help children learn at school, and doctors help everyone feel better when they are sick. I am a day to say a big “thank you” for all the important jobs they do. My holiday gives many of them a special day to rest, relax, and be with their families.
My very first celebration happened a long time ago in a big place called New York City. To celebrate, lots of workers had a parade. They walked down the street together, feeling happy and proud of their jobs. It was a way to show everyone how much their work mattered. Even now, some towns and cities still have parades to celebrate me. You might see fun floats, hear music from a marching band, or watch people wave to the crowds.
Today, people celebrate me on a Monday at the very end of summer. This makes a long weekend for everyone to enjoy. It is a wonderful time for families and friends to get together for one last summer party. Many people have picnics in the park with tasty sandwiches and fruit. Others have barbecues in their backyards and cook yummy hot dogs and burgers. For lots of children, I am one of the final, fun days of summer vacation before it is time to go back to school.
