Just want Martin Luther King Jr. Day - American?
I am a very special day. My name is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and I am a holiday for people in America. On my day, everyone stops to remember an important leader. His name was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He was a very kind man who worked hard his whole life. He wanted to make sure that every single person, no matter who they were, was treated fairly. Being treated fairly means everyone gets to be friends and share the same spaces. Dr. King believed that kindness was the most powerful thing in the world.
Dr. King had a big, beautiful dream for everyone. He dreamed that one day, all people would live together in peace and be kind to one another. He wanted children everywhere to be able to play together and hold hands as friends. He taught people that using gentle words and peaceful actions was the best way to make the world better. He said that fighting and being unkind never solves problems. He shared his dream by giving amazing speeches. Many people still listen to his powerful words today to learn how to be more peaceful and loving.
Because Dr. King spent his life helping others, people use my day to be helpers, too. Many people call me a 'day on, not a day off.' This means it is a perfect day to be busy doing good things for your community. Families might go to a park and help make it clean and pretty for everyone to enjoy. Some people share food with neighbors who might be hungry. Others spend time reading special stories about kindness and fairness. By doing these helpful and caring things, people everywhere help keep Dr. King’s wonderful dream of peace and friendship alive.
