Just want 14-bis?
Hello there. My name is 14-bis, and I am a very special airplane. I don't look like the big, shiny planes you see today. I was made long ago from wood, bamboo, and cloth, so I looked more like a giant box kite with wings. My creator was a wonderful man named Alberto Santos-Dumont. He was from a sunny country called Brazil, but he lived in the beautiful city of Paris. Alberto had a big dream. He wanted to fly through the air just like a bird. Back in the year 1906, most people thought flying a machine that was heavier than the air was impossible. They would shake their heads and say it couldn't be done. But Alberto believed. He believed in his dream, and he believed in me. He worked day and night, putting me together piece by piece, hoping I could show the world that dreams can take flight.
I will never forget the day of October 23rd, 1906. It was my first big test. Alberto took me to a huge, grassy field in Paris. A giant crowd of people came to watch. They stood with wide eyes, whispering and pointing at my funny shape. I felt a little nervous, but I was also buzzing with excitement. Alberto climbed into his seat, and my engine started with a loud sputter and a roar. Vroom. Vroom. I could feel the ground rumbling beneath my wheels as I started to move faster and faster across the field. Then, it happened. A magical feeling. My wheels lifted off the grass, and I was flying. I was really flying. It wasn't for very long, only about 60 meters, but it was amazing. For the very first time in Europe, a crowd of people watched an airplane take off and fly all by itself. When I landed, everyone cheered and threw their hats in the air. They couldn't believe their eyes. We had done it.

My first little hop was just the beginning. A few weeks later, on November 12th, 1906, Alberto and I went back to the field to try again. This time, I was ready to fly even farther. My engine roared, I raced down the field, and I soared into the sky once more. I flew for a whole 220 meters without stopping. It was a new world record. My flights showed everyone that airplanes were not just a silly dream. They were real and they worked. People all over the world heard about what I did, and it made them excited. They started to believe that they could build flying machines, too. My short flights were like a little spark that lit up a big fire of imagination. Even though I was one of the very first airplanes, my little hops helped start the amazing world of air travel that you have today, all because my dear friend Alberto dared to dream of the sky.
