The Story of the Wheel

Hello! I’m the wheel, and I am round like the sun! My favorite thing to do is roll and spin, going round and round and round. It feels like a happy dance! A long, long time ago, before I came along, moving things was very, very hard. Imagine trying to push your biggest toy box, but it was as heavy as a giant, square rock. It was so tricky! People had to push and pull with all their might, and it made them very tired. They wished for a way to make things move easily.

Then, thousands of years ago, a wonderful idea popped into someone’s head! At first, I didn't roll on the ground. My first job was to spin and help a potter make beautiful, round bowls and pots. I would spin in circles all day, helping shape the soft clay. One day, a clever person saw me spinning and thought, 'What if we turned that on its side?' They remembered how logs could roll under heavy things to move them. So, they took two of me, connected us with a little stick called an axle, and put us under a cart. I was so excited! I wasn't just spinning in one place anymore; I was ready to roll!

Suddenly, I was rolling and helping everyone! With me under their carts, people could carry yummy baskets of fruit and veggies from the farm. They could move big blocks to build their homes. It was so much easier! People could even travel to visit their friends in other villages. Now, I am everywhere! You can see me on cars that go vroom, on buses that go to school, on bikes you ride in the park, and even on your favorite toy trucks. I love helping the world go round and round with fun and adventure every single day!
