Just want Water Wheel?
Hello. I am a Water Wheel. I am big and round, and I love to spin in the cool, splashing water. Long, long ago, people had to do very hard work with their hands. They had to grind bumpy grains to make soft flour for their bread. It was a very big job and made their arms tired. People saw the river rushing by, going whoosh, whoosh, whoosh. They knew the river was very strong. So, they built me to use the river’s pushing power to help them with their big jobs. I was so excited to help.
I was born a very, very long time ago, in the ancient world, around the 3rd century BCE. That is older than anyone you know. Clever people saw how the river loved to move and play all day long. They built me with many little paddles all around my big wooden body. My paddles looked like hands ready to catch the water. They placed me carefully in the flowing river. The water pushed my first paddle, then the next, and the next. Push, spin. Push, spin. I began to turn, round and round. The water tickled my paddles, and I giggled with a splashy sound. I was learning how to turn the river’s energy into helpful spinning, and it felt like a fun game.
My spinning helped so many people do their work. As I turned, I helped grind lots of grain into fluffy flour to make yummy bread for families to eat. I also helped lift buckets of water from the river up to thirsty gardens and farms. My work helped the little green plants grow big and strong. I was a very busy and happy helper. My big idea of using water to make power is still helping today. In big dams, special wheels that look a little like me spin super fast to make electricity. That electricity turns on the lights in your house. Using the power of nature is a wonderful way to make life better for everyone.
