The Story of the Helpful Wrench

Hello. I am a wrench. I have a strong metal body and a special mouth that opens and closes. My job is to help with nuts and bolts. Do you know what those are. They are like little metal puzzle pieces that hold things together, like your toys or the chair you sit on. Before I was created, it was very tricky to make things tight. You needed lots of different tools for lots of different nuts and bolts. But I am special because I can change my size to help with big ones and small ones.

I was born from a very clever idea a long, long time ago. A kind man named Johan Petter Johansson who lived in a place called Sweden thought of me. On a sunny day, May 11th, 1892, he decided to make a tool that could help everyone. He gave me a special jaw that works like a little mouth. I can open my mouth really wide for big, chunky nuts. Then, I can close it up to be very small for tiny, little bolts. This way, I can fit almost all of them. I was so excited to be able to help so many people with so many different jobs.

Today, I am a very busy helper. I get to help fix so many amazing things all around the world. You might see me helping to fix a wobbly wheel on a bicycle so you can ride safely. I help put together fun swing sets in the park so you can play. I even help big builders make super tall skyscrapers that touch the clouds. I am a happy and helpful friend for anyone who needs to make sure things are snug and tight, so everything stays safe and strong. It makes me proud to be such a useful tool for everyone.
