Just want Beauty and the Beast - French?
My favorite place in the world was curled up with a book, lost in tales of adventure and faraway lands. My name is Belle, and I lived with my father, a kind merchant, and my two sisters in the French countryside, long ago in the 18th century. Our lives were simple until a storm at sea changed everything, and we lost all our money. This is the story of how a single rose led me to a hidden castle and a beastly secret, a tale people now call Beauty and the Beast. It all began when my father prepared for a journey, hoping to reclaim some of his lost fortune. My sisters, who were quite concerned with appearances, asked for jewels and fine dresses. But I asked only for a single, perfect rose, for they did not grow in our part of the country. On his way home, lost and shivering in a dark forest, my father stumbled upon a magnificent, enchanted castle. Roses grew everywhere in its gardens, a sea of red and pink under the moonlight. Thinking of my simple request, he plucked one. At that moment, a fearsome Beast appeared, roaring with a voice like thunder. He declared that my father must pay for his theft with his life, unless one of his daughters came willingly to take his place. Can you imagine the terror my father must have felt?
When my father returned, his face pale with fear, and told us what had happened, I knew what I had to do. I could not let him suffer for a gift meant for me. I went to the castle, my heart pounding like a drum, to take his place. The Beast was terrifying to look at, with the head of a lion, sharp claws, and a thunderous voice, but he promised no harm would come to me. The castle itself was a place of wonders. Invisible servants tended to my every need, laying out delicious meals and lighting cozy fires. The library was the most incredible room I had ever seen, with more books than I could read in a lifetime. Every night at nine o'clock, the Beast would join me for dinner. At first, I was frightened and quiet, but I soon discovered that beneath his gruff exterior, he was gentle and surprisingly intelligent. He spoke of stars and philosophy, and I saw a deep sadness in his eyes. He had everything he could want in his castle, except a friend to see past his frightening appearance. Each night, as dinner ended, he would ask me the same question, his voice suddenly soft: 'Belle, will you marry me?' And each night, my answer was the same: 'No, Beast.' I was growing fond of him, but I missed my family terribly. The Beast, seeing my sadness, showed me a magic mirror where I could see my family. One day, I saw that my father was sick with grief, and I begged the Beast to let me go to him.

One day, I saw that my father was sick with grief, and I begged the Beast to let me go to him.
The Beast agreed to let me go for one week, giving me the magic mirror and an enchanted ring that would take me home and bring me back with a simple twist. 'Do not be late,' he warned, 'or I will die of sorrow.' My father was overjoyed to see me, and I nursed him back to health. But my jealous sisters, seeing me in my beautiful gown and hearing of my life in the enchanted castle, tricked me into staying longer than I had promised. They rubbed an onion on their eyes to produce fake tears and begged me not to leave them. One night, I felt a pang of guilt and looked into the magic mirror. I saw a terrible sight: the Beast was lying in the castle garden, looking frail and still, dying of a broken heart because he thought I had abandoned him. I had to get back. Without a second thought, I used the ring to return instantly to his side. I found him barely breathing and knelt beside him, weeping. 'Please don't die,' I cried, my voice choked with tears. 'I never knew it until now, but I love you.' As my tears fell onto him, a brilliant, magical light surrounded the Beast. He transformed from a fearsome creature into a handsome prince. He explained that a wicked fairy had placed a curse on him, which could only be broken by someone who could love him for who he was on the inside. My love had broken the spell. The castle returned to its former glory, the invisible servants became real people again, and the Prince and I were married, ruling his kingdom with kindness and compassion.
Our story was first written down in France by an author named Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve on March 1st, 1740 and was later retold in a shorter version by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont. It quickly became a favorite in homes and schools, teaching a powerful lesson that has echoed through the centuries: that true beauty is not what you see on the outside, but what is in your heart. It reminds us that kindness, courage, and compassion are the most beautiful qualities of all. Today, the story of Beauty and the Beast continues to inspire countless books, plays, and movies around the world. It lives on, sparking our imaginations and encouraging us to look for the good in everyone, proving that a tale of love and understanding is truly timeless.
