The story

The Myth of the Chimera

Hello, I am Chimera. I live on a big, sunny mountain. The sun is warm and bright. I love to play games on my mountain. I am a very special animal. I am made of three friends. My body is a big, strong lion. I have a fluffy, yellow mane. Roar. goes my lion head. A little goat head peeks out from my back. Baa. says my goat head. It is a silly, happy goat. And my tail is a long, slithery snake. Hiss. goes my snake tail. Roar, baa, hiss. We sing a happy song together all day long. We are a funny, mixed-up creature, and we love it.

One day, I was playing peek-a-boo behind a big, gray rock. I looked up, up, up into the big blue sky. I saw something amazing. A boy was flying on a horse. The horse had big, white wings. The wings were soft like fluffy clouds. The boy's name was Bellerophon. The horse's name was Pegasus. Whoosh. They flew past the sun. Zoom. They danced with the wind. They swooped down low and soared up high. It looked like so much fun. A horse with wings. A flying horse in the big, wide sky. I waved my snake tail to say hello.

Long, long ago, people told stories about me. They saw a lion, a goat, and a snake all in one. They thought that was so silly and amazing. They painted pictures of me on pretty pots. They told stories about the boy on the flying horse, too. My story wasn't scary. Oh, no. It was a fun story about imagination. It is fun to imagine new things. Today, people still think of me when they make up new, fun creatures for their stories. It is good to have a big imagination. It helps you think of wonderful, silly, and amazing things, just like me.
