The story

A Christmas Carol

Bah, humbug. That is what I used to say. My name is Ebenezer Scrooge. I lived in a big, chilly house in a big city. I loved my shiny coins. Clink, clank, clink. They were my best friends. I did not like Christmas. No, no, no. I thought it was silly. I did not like to share my things. I did not like to be kind. But one very cold Christmas Eve, everything changed. It was like magic. This is my special Christmas story.

That night, three special friends came to see me. Shhh, shhh. They were very quiet. They were not scary at all. The first friend was sparkly and bright, like a little star. This friend showed me a memory of me. I was a little boy, laughing and playing. Ha, ha, ha. It was so much fun. The next friend showed me warm, cozy houses full of light. I saw my nephew Fred singing happy songs. I saw the Cratchit family sharing a small dinner, but they were so happy and full of love. The last friend was very, very quiet. It showed me a future where I was all alone. No one to play with. No one to hug. My heart felt so sad. Sad, sad, sad.

When I woke up, the sun was shining. It was so bright, bright, bright. My heart felt happy and light, like a big red balloon. I was not grumpy anymore. No more 'Bah, humbug.' for me. I ran to my window and opened it wide. I shouted, 'Merry Christmas.' to everyone outside. I bought a big, big turkey for the Cratchit family. It was a yummy dinner for them and for sweet Tiny Tim. I played games with my family all day long. We laughed and sang together. A kind man named Charles Dickens wrote my story on December 19th, 1843. He wanted everyone to know that it is always good to be kind. Sharing your happiness is the best Christmas magic of all. Hooray.
