The story

The River's Music Man

A little girl named Sofia lived in a small house near a big, big river. The river went swish, swish, swish all day long, telling its secrets to the trees. Sofia's abuela said the river had a special friend who kept it safe, a man with long, tangled hair and sparkly eyes. She said if you listen, you can hear his music. This is the myth of El Mohán.

One sunny day, the river was very, very quiet. All the little fish were hiding. Sofia walked by the water and heard a pretty sound, like a gentle guitar. Plink, plonk, plink. Peeking behind a big, mossy rock, she saw him. It was El Mohán. His hair was long like seaweed, and his eyes sparkled like stones in the sun. He was playing a beautiful song. He was not scary at all. El Mohán winked one sparkly eye at Sofia and tapped his foot on the ground. Tap, tap, tap. Suddenly, all the little fish swam out and danced in the water. Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle. El Mohán is the river's protector. His music tells the fish when it is safe to play and when they should hide.

Now, whenever Sofia sees the river flowing, she imagines El Mohán playing a happy tune in a hidden cave. The story of El Mohán teaches us to be kind to nature. It reminds everyone to listen to the rivers and protect the animals who live there. We should all be friends to our beautiful world. His story is told in songs and pictures, reminding children like Sofia to take care of the wonderful nature all around them.
