Just want Ereshkigal?
Deep, deep underground lived a queen named Ereshkigal. Her home was a secret kingdom, quiet and sparkly, filled with shimmering gems that glowed like sleepy stars. Her kingdom was a special place where things could rest, like tiny seeds waiting for their time to grow. This story is about a time her sister came to visit, and it is part of a very old myth called the Descent of Inanna.
One day, Ereshkigal's sister Inanna decided to visit. Inanna was the queen of the bright sky and the sunny world above. To enter the underground kingdom, she had to pass through seven magic gates. At each gate, she left behind something shiny. She left her sparkly crown. She left her jingling bracelets. She left her beautiful robe. Soon, she arrived looking simple and plain. The two sisters spent time together in the quiet land, and it was like the whole world was taking a big, peaceful nap. When it was time for Inanna to leave, she got all her shiny things back at each gate. When she finally stepped back into her world, she brought the springtime with her. The flowers bloomed and the sun shone extra bright. This story helped people long ago understand how the earth rests in the winter and wakes up in the spring.
