The story

Gunnlod and the Magic Mead

Deep, deep, deep inside a sparkly mountain lived a girl named Gunnlod. Her home was a cozy cave. It was quiet and safe. Gunnlod had a very important job. She was the guardian of a special treasure. It was a bubbly, sweet drink in three big pots. The pots glowed like little stars in the dark. This was the Mead of Poetry. If you had just a little sip, you could tell the best stories. You could sing the most beautiful songs. Gunnlod loved her job. She kept the magic mead safe and sound, all day long.

One sunny day, a visitor came to the mountain. A kind traveler with a happy smile found his way to the cave. His name was Odin. Odin did not want to take the treasure. He just wanted to hear stories. Gunnlod and Odin talked for a long, long time. He told her about the world outside. He talked about the bright sun and the big blue sky. Gunnlod listened and saw that Odin loved beautiful words, just like she did. He loved stories very, very much. So, Gunnlod decided to share her secret treasure. It was a kind thing to do. She let him have three tiny sips of the glowing mead. One sip from the first pot. One sip from the second pot. And one sip from the third pot.

After his sips, Odin said thank you. Then, poof. He changed into a great, big eagle. The eagle spread its wings and flew out of the mountain. Up, up, up he flew into the sky. As he soared, tiny drops of the magic mead fell down, down, down. The drops were like shiny morning dew. They landed all over the world. These little drops gave people the gift of poetry and songs. Gunnlod was so happy. The treasure she guarded was now making the whole world a more beautiful place. This story, the myth of Gunnlod and the Mead of Poetry, reminds us that sharing our gifts brings joy to everyone.
