The story

Lạc Long Quân and Âu Cơ

High up in the tall mountains lived a beautiful fairy. Her name was Âu Cơ. The clouds were her soft blankets, and the air smelled sweet like flowers. She loved her mountain home. Down in the deep blue sea lived a strong dragon king. His name was Lạc Long Quân. He loved his home in the water. One day, the fairy and the dragon king met. This is the amazing story from Vietnam called Lạc Long Quân and Âu Cơ.

The fairy and the dragon king became best friends. Soon, Âu Cơ had a wonderful surprise. She had a pouch with one hundred round eggs inside. Wow, one hundred eggs. They kept the eggs cozy and warm. They watched them every day. Then, one by one, the eggs hatched. Out came one hundred happy children. Their family was so big and full of joy. One hundred little babies laughed and played all day long.

The children grew bigger and bigger. Âu Cơ and Lạc Long Quân knew they had a big job. The family needed to take care of all the land. The daddy dragon took fifty children to the sea. Splash. They would learn to fish. The mommy fairy took fifty children to the mountains. Up high. They would learn to farm. Even though they lived apart, they were one big family. They promised to always, always help each other. This story shows that all the people are brothers and sisters, connected forever by the mountains and the sea.
