Sơn Tinh and Thủy Tinh - Vietnamese

Hello. My name is Princess Mỵ Nương. I lived in a warm, sunny land. On one side, there were tall, tall green mountains. On the other side was the big, blue, sparkly sea. One day, two friends came to see me. One was Sơn Tinh, the Spirit of the Mountain. He was so strong and kind. The other was Thủy Tinh, the Spirit of the Sea. He was so big and powerful. They both wanted to be my special friend. This is the story of the Mountain Spirit and the Sea Spirit.

My daddy, the King, made a fun game. A fun game to choose my friend. He asked for special presents. A big elephant with nine tusks. A proud rooster with nine spurs. A beautiful horse with nine colors, just like a rainbow. Whoever brought the presents first would win the game. Sơn Tinh, the Mountain Spirit, ran into the green forest. He was so fast. Zoom. He found all the special animals. He brought them to me first. I was so, so happy. We had a party with music and dancing to celebrate.

Then, Thủy Tinh came from the sea. Oh no, he was too late. He felt very sad. So sad that his water started to rise up. Splash, splash, splash. Big gray clouds came into the sky. Pitter-patter went the rain. But Sơn Tinh, my strong friend, was not scared. He waved his magic hands. The mountains grew up, up, up. They grew so tall. They lifted our home high above the water. Now, every year, the rain comes down. And every year, the mountains grow tall to keep us safe and dry. The strong mountain always protects us from the big sea.
