Just want Sơn Tinh and Thủy Tinh - Vietnamese?
My name is Mỵ Nương, and long ago, I was a princess in the ancient land of Văn Lang, where emerald green mountains touched the clouds and rivers flowed like silk ribbons to the sea. My home was a paradise of vibrant rice paddies and lush forests. My father, the great Hùng King, loved our land with all his heart, but he worried for me, for I had two suitors so powerful they could shake the world. One was Sơn Tinh, the spirit of the Ba Vì mountain range, whose spirit was as kind and strong as the ancient trees. He could make forests bloom with a single touch and commanded beasts of the wild with a gentle word. The other was Thủy Tinh, the lord of the Eastern Sea, whose moods were as unpredictable as the tides, shifting from calm to furious in an instant. My father knew he could not choose between them without causing great conflict, and so began the story of Sơn Tinh and Thủy Tinh.
To be fair, my father declared a contest, a seemingly impossible challenge to prove who was most worthy. He announced, “The first to bring me wedding gifts of one hundred platters of sticky rice, twenty elephants with gleaming tusks, twenty roosters with nine spurs, and twenty horses with nine manes will win my daughter’s hand.” Can you imagine such fantastical creatures? Roosters with nine spurs and horses with nine manes were things of legend. Thủy Tinh scoffed, knowing it would take time to search the depths of his watery kingdom. But Sơn Tinh, whose home was the mountain forest, smiled. He knew every secret of the land. He moved with incredible speed, gathering the rare animals and treasures as if they were waiting just for him. He arrived first, his magnificent gifts arranged before the palace. My father joyfully announced our wedding, and I felt a sense of peace choosing the steadfast spirit of the mountain. But just as the celebrations began, the sky turned a furious shade of gray. Thủy Tinh had arrived, and seeing he had lost, he roared with rage. He was a spirit of the sea, and his heartbreak became a storm. He summoned giant waves to crash upon the shore and called forth torrential rains to flood our fields and villages. The water rose higher and higher, threatening to swallow my entire kingdom.

But my new husband, Sơn Tinh, was not afraid. He was the spirit of the mountain, steadfast and unmoving, and he would not let the sea claim what belonged to the land. As Thủy Tinh’s waters rose, a terrifying wall of churning blue, Sơn Tinh used his magic to raise the mountains higher. For every wave that crashed against the land, Sơn Tinh lifted the earth to meet it, creating a barrier to protect our people. I watched in awe as hills grew into mountains and mountains stretched toward the clouds. The battle raged for weeks, a terrifying clash of water and rock, storm and stillness. Finally, exhausted and unable to overcome the ever-growing land, Thủy Tinh retreated to the sea, defeated but not humbled. He vowed to return every year to try and claim me again. And so he does. Every year, during the rainy season, Thủy Tinh brings floods and storms, his anger still churning the waters. And every year, Sơn Tinh raises the land, a silent guardian protecting it from the sea’s fury. This story taught our ancestors about the annual monsoons and the constant struggle between the land and the sea. It is a tale of resilience, reminding us that even in the face of nature’s power, the spirit of the land—and its people—endures.
