Just want Mr. Kotsky - Ukrainian?
My paws were sore, and my whiskers drooped as I padded through the deep, quiet forest. My name is Kotsky, and not long ago, I was a cozy housecat whose only job was to chase mice and nap in sunbeams. But my legs grew slow and my eyes grew dim with age, and my master decided I was no longer useful, so on the 2nd of May, he left me here, all alone in this enormous wilderness. Can you imagine how terrifying that was? The trees towered over me like silent giants, and every rustle of leaves sounded like a monster. I was just a tired old cat, abandoned and hungry. This is the story of how I, a simple feline, became the most feared creature in the woods, a tale the people of Ukraine call 'Mr. Kotsky'. I had no claws to speak of and a meow that was more of a squeak, but I soon discovered that a clever mind could be the sharpest weapon of all. My journey from a forgotten pet to a forest legend began with a single, desperate idea, born from fear and an empty belly.
Just as I was about to curl up and give up hope, a flash of magnificent red fur darted past. It was a clever Fox with bright, curious eyes that seemed to sparkle with intelligence. She stopped, tilted her head, and asked in a cautious voice, 'Who are you, stranger? I have never seen a creature like you in these parts.' My heart hammered against my ribs, but an idea sparked in my mind. Thinking fast, I puffed out my chest, stretched as tall as my old bones would allow, and declared in the deepest, most authoritative voice I could manage, 'I am Mr. Kotsky, sent from the very heavens to be the new governor of this forest!' The Fox's eyes widened in astonishment. She had never seen a creature like me, with my striped coat and dignified air, and was thoroughly impressed. 'Oh, great Mr. Kotsky,' she said, bowing low. 'It would be an honor to serve you. Please, come live in my burrow. I will even be your wife!' Well, who was I to refuse such a generous offer? Word of my arrival spread like wildfire. A nervous Wolf, a grumbling Bear, and a mighty Boar heard whispers that a terrifying new ruler was in the forest, and they grew very frightened. They didn't want to anger me, so they put their heads together and decided to prepare a magnificent feast to win my favor and see this powerful governor for themselves.

They didn't want to anger me, so they put their heads together and decided to prepare a magnificent feast to win my favor and see this powerful governor for themselves.
The next day, the Fox led me to a clearing where a grand meal was laid out on a large, flat stone: glistening honey, savory meats, and piles of sweet berries. But the clearing was eerily empty. The Wolf, Bear, and Boar were so intimidated by my reputation that they were hiding in the dense bushes, peeking out with trembling whiskers to see what I would do. I didn't see them, of course. My old eyes only saw the most delicious food I had ever laid eyes on! Forgetting all my troubles, I leaped onto the stone table and began to eat with gusto, purring loudly with pure happiness. 'Mrrrrrr... Mrrrrrr...' I hummed, my whole body vibrating with contentment. But to the hiding animals, my happy purr sounded like a fearsome, angry growl! They shivered in their hiding spots. Just then, a little mouse, tempted by the smell of berries, scurried out from under a leaf. My old instincts kicked in instantly! I crouched low, my tail twitched, and I pounced with a sharp, angry hiss, 'Hsssss!' The Bear, Wolf, and Boar were absolutely certain I was still hungry and was furiously shouting for more food. 'He's going to eat us next!' the Bear whispered in terror. They panicked and ran for their lives, tumbling over each other in their desperate haste to escape the 'ferocious' Mr. Kotsky. The Fox and I were left with a feast big enough to last us for weeks.
And so, I lived the rest of my days in peace and absolute comfort, feared and respected by all the animals in the forest, who never dared to come close enough to discover my secret. My story was told around warm fires on cold Ukrainian nights, passed from grandparents to grandchildren on days like October 15th. It wasn't a story about being the biggest or the strongest, but about being clever and using your wits. It teaches that quick thinking and a bit of courage can be far more powerful than sharp claws or mighty muscles. Today, the tale of Mr. Kotsky is more than just a story. It continues to inspire cartoons, puppet shows, and beautifully illustrated books all across Ukraine. It’s a wonderful reminder for everyone that even when you feel small, old, or overlooked, a creative mind and a little bit of bravery can help you become the ruler of your own forest. You just have to believe in the power of your own imagination.
