The story

Anansi and the Box of Stories

My Golden Box of Stories

Hello, little friends. I live way up high in the big blue sky, where the clouds are soft and fluffy like little sheep. My name is Nyame, and I watch the big, round world below. Long ago, I had a special box. It was a shiny, golden box. Inside my golden box were all the stories in the world. So many stories. But only I could hear them. One day, a little spider named Anansi looked up and saw my box. Anansi was very clever and he wanted the stories for everyone. This is the story of Anansi and the Box of Stories.

A Clever Spider's Quest

I told Anansi he could have the golden box. But first, he had to do three things. Three tricky things. First, I said, "Bring me the buzzing hornets." Buzz, buzz, buzz went the hornets. Anansi found a big, empty gourd and told them, "It's going to rain. Hide in here." The hornets flew right inside. Plink, plonk, Anansi closed the gourd. Next, I said, "Bring me the strong leopard." Grrr, grrr, went the leopard. Anansi dug a deep, deep hole and covered it with leaves. The leopard was playing and fell right in. Boomp. Last, I said, "Bring me the long, long python." Sssss, sssss, went the python. Anansi found a long branch and asked the python, "Are you longer than this branch?" The python stretched out straight, and Anansi tied him to the branch. He was so clever.

Stories for Everyone

Anansi brought me the hornets, the leopard, and the python. One, two, three. I was so happy with the clever little spider. So, I gave him the golden box. Anansi opened the box. Whoosh. All the stories flew out. The stories flew like bright, colorful butterflies all over the big, wide world. Now, the stories are for everyone. You can hear them, and you can tell them, too. It is good to be clever and to share.
