The story

The Adventures of Don Quixote

In a warm, sunny land lived a man named Don Quixote. He loved to read big books about brave knights and their amazing adventures. He read and read and read all day long. One day, Don Quixote had a wonderful idea. "I will be a knight, too!" he said. He wanted a helper, called a squire, to come with him. So he asked his good friend, Sancho Panza. Sancho was happy to go! This was the beginning of the story of Don Quixote, a very fun and silly knight.

Don Quixote rode his tall horse, and Sancho rode his little donkey. Clip-clop, they went, looking for fun. Soon, they saw something very big on a green hill. They were giant windmills with long arms that spun round and round in the wind. Whoosh, whoosh, went the arms. But Don Quixote saw something else. "Look, Sancho!" he shouted with a big, happy voice. "Giant friends are waving at us!" He thought the windmills were giants! Before Sancho could say a word, Don Quixote rode to say hello. One big windmill arm gently scooped him up into the bright blue sky. Up, up, up he went! Then, it gently set him back down on the soft green grass. It was like a ride at the park! "Master, those are just windmills!" said Sancho. Don Quixote just smiled. He thought a magician played a fun trick on him.

All their adventures were full of fun and silly surprises. Don Quixote saw a world full of magic and games. Sancho was always there to help his friend and laugh with him. He was a very good friend. Their story was first told in a big, big book many years ago, maybe on a day like January 16th, 1605. The book has made children and grown-ups smile for a long, long time. It teaches us that it is wonderful to play pretend and have a big imagination. And most important of all, it is wonderful to have a loyal friend by your side. The story of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza helps everyone find a little adventure, every single day.
