Just want Sheriff of Nottingham?
The sun may be shining on the strong stone walls of Nottingham Castle, but I am in a grumpy mood. My name is the Sheriff of Nottingham, and it is my duty to keep peace in this land and collect the taxes for our ruler, Prince John. But my days are filled with frustration because of a certain outlaw who lives deep within Sherwood Forest. This fellow is a terrible pest. You have probably heard the songs they sing about him, the story of Robin Hood.
I thought I was very clever. I decided to host a grand archery tournament, with a shiny golden arrow as the prize. 'Surely,' I thought, 'Robin Hood cannot resist showing off his skills. I will catch him for sure.'. People came from all over the county to watch the archers. One stranger, dressed in a simple cloak with the hood pulled low, stepped up to the line. He drew his bow, and with a *thwip*, his arrow flew straight and true, splitting his opponent's arrow right down the middle. The crowd gasped and cheered. I was impressed, so I awarded the mysterious stranger the golden arrow. But as the stranger turned to leave, he tipped his hood, revealing the smiling face of Robin Hood. Before my guards could even move, Robin had vanished back into the crowd and disappeared into the safety of the forest. I was furious. Robin Hood and his friends, called the Merry Men, were famous for outsmarting me. They would take money from the rich travelers who passed through the forest and give it to the poor villagers who had none, making sure every family had food to eat and a warm home.

The end of my troubles came when the true king, King Richard the Lionheart, returned home on October 6th, 1192. The king saw that Robin Hood had a good and noble heart, and he pardoned him, making him a hero of the land. For hundreds of years since, the story of Robin Hood has been told and retold. It started as songs and poems called ballads, shared by families and friends to pass the time. The story wasn't just about a clever hero and a grumpy Sheriff; it was a story about being fair, helping others, and having the courage to do what’s right. Today, the legend of Robin Hood still inspires us in books, cartoons, and movies. It reminds us that kindness is a true treasure and that a single brave person can bring hope to many, sparking our imagination to dream of adventures and heroic deeds.
