The story

The Journey to the West

Hello there, my name is Tang Sanzang, and many years ago, I was a simple monk living in the grand city of Chang’an, the heart of Tang Dynasty China. The streets were filled with the sounds of bustling markets and the scent of sweet blossoms, but I had a very important job to do. The kind Emperor asked me to travel to a faraway land in the West, all the way to India, to bring back sacred scrolls filled with wisdom. I knew the journey would be long and filled with dangers I couldn't even imagine. This is the story of my adventure, the one people now call the 'Journey to the West'.

I couldn't make such a long journey all by myself. Luckily, I found three very special friends to help me along the way. The first was a clever and brave monkey named Sun Wukong. He was born from a magic stone, could fly on a fluffy cloud, and carried a staff that could grow as big as a mountain or as small as a needle! He was my main protector, always ready to fight off tricky demons who wanted to stop our quest. Next, I met Zhu Bajie, who we called Pigsy. He was part man and part pig, super strong, and always, always hungry! He could be a little lazy sometimes, but he had a good heart and was a fierce fighter when we needed him. Our third companion was Sha Wujing, or Sandy. He was a gentle giant who once lived in a river of sand. He was quiet, loyal, and always carried our luggage without a single complaint. Together, we were a team. We crossed roaring rivers, climbed snowy mountains, and walked through dark forests, always looking out for one another.

After many years and countless adventures, we finally reached India. It was a beautiful land, and we were given the sacred scrolls I had come for. Our journey back home was just as long, but our hearts were full of joy. When we arrived back in Chang’an, the Emperor and all the people celebrated our return. We were heroes! The scrolls we brought back were shared with everyone, bringing peace and knowledge to the land. My story, the Journey to the West, was first told in a big book written long ago by a man named Wu Cheng'en on May 2nd, 1592. Today, our adventure is shared in cartoons, movies, and plays all over the world. It reminds everyone that with courage, teamwork, and good friends by your side, you can complete even the most difficult journey. And it helps us imagine our own great adventures, just waiting to begin.
