Hello! My name is Ayar Manco, and long, long ago, I lived inside a big, cozy mountain cave called Pacaritambo. I didn’t live alone! I had my three brothers and our four wives with me, and we were a happy family. We were also very special because our father was Inti, the great and powerful Sun God who warms the whole world. He gave us a very important mission. This is the amazing story of our adventure, which people now call The Legend of the Ayar Brothers. One beautiful morning, the sunbeams danced into our cave, and it felt like our father’s voice was whispering on the wind. He told us it was time to leave our home. We needed to go on a quest to find a special valley, a perfect place to build a magnificent city for our people.
Our father, the Sun God, gave us a special gift for our journey: a shiny golden staff. He told us, 'Walk far and wide. Where this staff sinks easily into the ground, that is the place you will build your home.' So, we packed up and started our long walk! My brother Ayar Cachi was incredibly strong. He could toss a stone and make a whole new valley appear! But his power was a little too big and wild, and it scared the people we met. We knew he couldn't build a calm city with us, so we gently tricked him into going back to our cave. As soon as he was inside, a giant rock sealed the entrance. He wasn’t trapped forever, though! He became a great mountain spirit, watching over us from above. As we walked on, we came to a tall, rocky mountain. My brother Ayar Uchu climbed up and sat on a stone statue to get a better view. But poof! The moment he sat down, he turned into a stone statue himself! He chose to become a sacred guardian for that place, protecting the path for all who followed. A little later, my other brother, Ayar Auca, grew beautiful, strong wings like a condor and flew high into the sky. He soared ahead to find the valley our father had promised. When he landed, his feet touched the ground, and he also turned to stone, marking the exact spot for our new home.

Now, I was the only brother left to finish our mission. I wasn’t sad, because I knew my brothers were still with me. They had become powerful guardians of the land, watching over me on the final part of my journey. I walked into the beautiful, sunny valley where Ayar Auca had landed. The air was warm and the soil looked dark and rich. I took out the golden staff our father had given us, the one we had carried for so long. My heart was beating like a drum. I gently pushed its tip into the ground. It didn't just stick in the dirt—it sank all the way down and disappeared completely! This was the sign we had been waiting for. This was the perfect place. Right there, on that very spot, I founded our new city, and we called it Cusco. It grew to become the capital of the great Inca Empire. We taught the people who came to live there how to plant corn, build strong houses, and always give thanks to our father, the Sun. Our story is told to remember that great things can start from a single mission, and that even when we make sacrifices, we help build something wonderful that lasts forever.
