Just want Xolotl (Aztec god)?
The world was dark and silent, waiting for a dawn that would not come. I should know, for I was there. My name is Xolotl, and I am a god with the head of a dog, a guide through shadows. My twin brother, the great Quetzalcoatl, and the other gods had gathered in the sacred city of Teotihuacan. We had created a new sun, a great blazing fire, but it hung motionless in the sky, refusing to begin its journey. A terrible choice was before us: to give the sun life, we gods had to give our own. It was the 1st day of a new age, and I will tell you the story of how it all began, the myth of the Fifth Sun.
One by one, the other gods bravely faced their end, their life force flowing into the unmoving sun. But I, Xolotl, trembled. My paws shook on the cool stone. I loved the world, with all its strange and beautiful forms, and I did not want to leave it. So, I ran. I fled from the one sent to complete the sacrifice, the swift wind god, Ehecatl. My heart pounded like a drum as I searched for a place to hide. Seeing a field of maguey plants with their sharp, spiky leaves, an idea sparked. I could change my shape. I focused all my energy and transformed myself, becoming one of them. I became the two-stalked mexolotl, hoping my spiky form would make me invisible to Ehecatl. Can you imagine trying to hide by becoming a plant? For a moment, it worked. But Ehecatl was clever, and his voice soon whispered like a rushing gale, “I see you, Xolotl.” I fled again, this time to the water's edge. With a desperate leap, I dove deep into the cool, dark lake and changed my shape once more. I became a strange, slippery creature that could live its whole life underwater, with feathery pink gills and eyes that never blinked. I became the axolotl. For a moment, I thought I was safe, hidden in the mud at the bottom of the lake. But the wind can go anywhere, even into the water. Ehecatl found me again. There was nowhere left to run. I knew my time had come, and that my sacrifice was needed to bring light and life to the humans who were waiting to be born. My heart was still pounding, but not just from fear. It was also pounding with a strange sort of courage. The world needed me.

With my life, and the lives of the other gods, the Fifth Sun finally began to move. It trembled, then climbed into the sky, bathing the world in golden light and warmth for the very first time. My story did not end there, though. Because I had been so afraid of the end, the other gods gave me a new purpose: to be the guide for the souls of humans when they journeyed through the underworld of Mictlan. I would lead them through the darkness, just as I had once tried to hide in it. The Aztec people of ancient Mexico told my story to explain where things came from, like the special maguey plant and the amazing axolotl that can heal itself. Even today, my story inspires people. Artists draw my dog-headed form and the playful axolotl. The story reminds us that it is okay to be scared, but that sometimes we must be brave for those we care about. It teaches us that even from an ending, a new beginning can shine, and that even in the darkest of places, a guide is there to help us find our way.
