The story

We Are the Bombay Natural History Society

Hello! We are the Bombay Natural History Society. Our story began a very long time ago, in 1883. We started in a big city in India that was called Bombay. Today, that city is known as Mumbai. We are a group of friends who love nature. We think animals, birds, and plants are amazing, and we wanted to learn all about them.

To learn, we go outside and watch very carefully. We look at the colorful birds in the trees and the busy animals on the ground. We study the beautiful flowers and tall trees. It is our job to be nature detectives! When we discover something new, we want to share it with everyone. We write down everything we see. We put our discoveries into books and a special magazine for others to read and enjoy.

We love all animals, but we chose a special bird to be our symbol. It is the Great Hornbill, a big, wonderful bird with a bright beak. If you ever see our logo, you will see the Great Hornbill on it! It helps people know who we are and reminds us how important it is to protect all birds.

Even today, we are still working hard. Our job is to help protect nature all across India. We want to keep the forests green and the animals safe. We also help teach everyone, including children just like you, how to care for our wonderful world. By learning together, we can make sure that nature stays healthy and beautiful for a long, long time.
