The story

Helping the Orangutans of Borneo

Hello! We are the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation. Our job is to help special animals called orangutans. Orangutans are big, gentle animals with long, red hair. They live high up in the trees of a beautiful rainforest. This rainforest is on an island called Borneo. We love watching them swing from branch to branch.

Sometimes, a baby orangutan loses its mother. It can also lose its home in the forest. When a baby is all alone, it needs a lot of help. That’s when we come to the rescue! We carefully bring the little orangutans to our special centers. Our centers are safe places where they can grow strong and healthy.

At our centers, we have a school for orangutans! We act like their new family and teach them important lessons. We feed them healthy food and make sure they feel safe. We show them how to climb trees, just like their mothers would. We also teach them how to find yummy fruits and leaves to eat in the wild. They play together and learn all about being a grown-up orangutan.

When the orangutans are big and know how to take care of themselves, it is time for them to go home. We take them back to a safe part of the rainforest where there are many tall trees. It is a very happy day when we watch them go free. They climb high into the trees to start their new lives. Our work is to protect the orangutans and their forest homes.
