The story

We Are ISRO, India’s Space Team

Hello! We are the Indian Space Research Organisation. That is a very long name, so you can call us by our short name, ISRO. We are the space agency for the country of India. Our team was created a long time ago, in 1969. Our job is to learn all about outer space. We use science to explore the stars and planets, and we use what we learn to help people back home in India.

One of our biggest jobs is building rockets. Our rockets are very tall and powerful. When they launch, they go WHOOSH, high up into the sky! They fly past the clouds and go all the way into space. These rockets are special because they carry our helpers, which are called satellites. Our very first satellite was named Aryabhata. Satellites are like our eyes in the sky. They circle high above the world.

Our satellites help people on Earth every day. For example, some of our satellites are weather watchers. They look down at the clouds and can tell us if a big storm is coming. This helps people know if they need to get ready for a rainy day. By watching from space, we can help everyone stay safe.

We also love to explore places that are very far away. We send our special machines to visit other worlds in our solar system, like the Moon and Mars. In 2023, our Chandrayaan-3 mission landed safely on the Moon! We also sent an explorer named Mangalyaan on a long trip to Mars. It flew around the red planet to study it and take pictures. Today, we are still working hard to explore space and use science to help make life better for everyone on Earth.
