The story

We Are NASA

Hello! We are the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. That is a very long name, so you can call us NASA. We are a big team of helpers in the United States. Our team was started a long time ago, in 1958. Our job is to explore space! We want to learn all about the air high above our world and everything beyond it. We build amazing things like rockets and spaceships to help us look at the stars and see new places in the sky. We love to learn and share what we find with everyone.

One of our most famous trips was to the Moon. The Moon is very, very far away. To get there, we built a super tall and powerful rocket. This big rocket carried a special spaceship called Apollo 11. Inside the spaceship were our brave astronauts. In 1969, the astronauts landed on the Moon! They were the very first people to ever walk there. It was so exciting! They walked around and collected moon rocks to bring back home to us. We study these rocks to learn what the Moon is made of.

Our work did not stop with the Moon. We still explore space every single day! We cannot send people to every planet because they are too far away. Instead, we build and send smart robots to explore for us. We call these robots rovers. Our rovers have wheels and cameras, and they drive all around on planets like Mars. We also have giant space telescopes. They are like huge cameras that float in space. These telescopes help us take pictures of things that are far away, like faraway stars and galaxies. Sharing these pictures helps everyone learn more about our amazing universe.
