We are Società Sportiva Calcio Napoli, a professional football club from the vibrant city of Naples, Italy. Our story began on August 25th, 1926, when we were founded with a clear purpose: to represent our home and its passionate people on the football pitch. For people in our region, football is more than just a game; it is a source of identity and community. From our very first matches, we became a symbol of pride for Southern Italy, a region with a distinct and powerful culture. Our players wear iconic light blue shirts, a color that so deeply represents us that it earned us our famous nickname, the 'Azzurri,' which means 'The Blues' in Italian. For many decades, we competed with determination and heart, building an unbreakable bond with our supporters who filled our home stadium with noise and color. While we had many dedicated players and passionate fans during these early years, the biggest national and international trophies remained just out of reach. We were a respected club, but we dreamed of becoming champions.
That dream began to turn into reality in 1984, a year that changed our history forever. It was the year we signed the Argentine superstar Diego Maradona. His arrival was a monumental event for both our club and the city of Naples. Maradona was widely considered one of the best players in the world, and his decision to join us transformed us from a good team into a truly great one. With his incredible skill, leadership, and creativity on the field, we reached heights we had never known before. The peak of this golden era came during the 1986–1987 season. Led by Maradona, we won our first-ever Serie A league title. In Italy, this championship trophy is known as the 'Scudetto,' and winning it sparked unbelievable celebrations that filled every street in Naples for days. We had proven we were the best in Italy. Our success didn't stop there. In 1989, we won the UEFA Cup, a major European trophy that showed we could compete against the best clubs from across the continent. To confirm our place at the top, we won a second Scudetto in the 1989–1990 season, cementing the legacy of that incredible team.
S.S.C. Napoli: The Pride of Naples

To confirm our place at the top, we won a second Scudetto in the 1989–1990 season, cementing the legacy of that incredible team.
After the incredible success of the Maradona era, our club entered a much more difficult period. Great players eventually move on, and maintaining that level of success proved to be a significant challenge. We began to face serious financial problems that worsened over time, making it difficult to compete with the top clubs in Italy. These struggles continued for years, and despite the efforts of many, the situation became unsustainable. In 2004, the club faced its lowest moment when it was officially declared bankrupt. This meant we could no longer compete in Serie A. It was a heartbreaking moment for our supporters. However, it was not the end of our story. A new owner, a film producer named Aurelio De Laurentiis, took over and began the long process of rebuilding. We had to restart from Italy's third division, a humbling experience for a club that had once been champions of Europe. For a short time, we even had to use a temporary name, Napoli Soccer. It was a long and difficult journey back, but through it all, our loyal fans never left us. They supported us in the lower leagues with the same passion they had shown in our glory days, believing that we would one day return to the top.
That faith and hard work eventually paid off. We began our steady climb back through the Italian football league system. In 2007, we finally achieved our first major goal: returning to Serie A, the top division of Italian football. This was a massive accomplishment that signaled our revival was real. We didn't just want to be back in Serie A; we wanted to compete for trophies again. We worked hard to build a strong team and re-establish ourselves as one of Italy's best clubs. Soon, the silverware started to return. We won the Italian Cup, known as the Coppa Italia, in 2012, our first major trophy since the comeback. We proved it wasn't a fluke by winning the Coppa Italia again in 2014 and for a third time in 2020. Then, during the 2022–2023 season, the moment our fans had been dreaming of for a generation finally arrived. We became champions of Italy once more, winning our third Scudetto. It was an incredible achievement that came 33 years after our last league title, proving that our journey from hardship back to hope was complete. Today, we continue our mission, competing against the best teams in Italy and Europe. We carry the unshakeable passion and pride of Naples with us everywhere we go, forever representing our amazing city.
