UN Environment Programme

Hello! We are the UN Environment Programme. That’s a long name, so you can call us by our nickname, UNEP. We are a part of a big group called the United Nations. Our main job is very important. We are helpers for our planet, the Earth. We work to take care of everything that makes our world beautiful. This means we help keep the air clean for us to breathe. We help keep the water clean for us to drink and for animals to swim in. We also help take care of the land where we live and play, and all the amazing animals that live there.

We love animals and the special places they call home. That’s why we work hard to protect them. We help keep the big, blue oceans clean. Clean water is important for the fish that swim and the big whales that splash. We also help save the forests. Forests are homes for so many animals, like colorful birds that sing in the trees and playful monkeys that swing from branches. By keeping their homes safe, we help the animals stay healthy and happy. We also teach people all over the world how they can be good helpers for nature, just like us.

Taking care of the Earth also means helping people. We show people how to live in ways that are good for our planet. One way we do this is by finding clean ways to make power. Instead of using things that make the air dirty, we can use the bright sun and the strong wind. This is called clean energy, and it helps everyone. We also show people how to be careful with the things we use every day. We teach them not to waste food and to save water. When we waste less, we help keep our planet healthy and strong for a long, long time.

Our work never stops. Every day, we are busy helping our planet. As the UN Environment Programme, or UNEP, we work with people everywhere to make sure our Earth stays a wonderful home for everyone. We will always be here, working together to keep our air, water, and land safe and clean for the future, for people, for animals, and for you.
