Just want United Farm Workers?
Hello! We are the United Farm Workers. We are a special group called a union. Our job is to help the people who work on big farms. These important people are called farmworkers.
Farmworkers help grow and pick the yummy food that you eat. They pick sweet strawberries, crunchy apples, and green lettuce. They work very hard in the fields every day. We want to make sure all farmworkers are treated fairly. We help them stay safe and healthy while they do their important work.
A long time ago, some farmworkers were not getting paid enough money for all their hard work. That wasn't fair. We knew we had to help. We asked all our friends and neighbors to help us in a peaceful way. We asked them to stop buying grapes from the store for a little while.
So many people listened and helped! When people stopped buying the grapes, the farm owners saw that everyone wanted the workers to be treated better. The owners agreed to pay the workers more money. We showed that working together and using our words can make a big, happy change.
Today, we are still helping farmworkers. We make sure they get fair pay for the work they do. We also help them get things they need to be safe in the hot sun, like shade to rest under and cool, clean water to drink. We believe that every worker is important and should be respected.
