The story

The Story of the Agra Fort

Hello there. Come closer. Can you see my strong, red walls? I stretch along the river in a curve, like a big, warm hug for the city of Agra in India. My stones glow like a sunset when the sun shines on them. People say I look like a giant crescent moon resting on the earth. I have been here for a very, very long time, keeping stories safe inside. I am the Agra Fort.

A kind and powerful emperor named Akbar started building me way back in the year 1565. He wanted a safe and beautiful home for his family. Later, his grandson, an emperor named Shah Jahan who loved beautiful things, added palaces inside me. He used shiny white marble that feels cool and smooth. For many years, I was a busy, happy home filled with kings and queens, music, and beautiful gardens. I watched boats float down the Yamuna River right beside me.

Now, my gates are open for everyone. Families and friends from all over the world come to walk through my courtyards. They peek into my marble rooms and imagine the emperors who lived here. I love sharing my history with them. I stand tall and proud next to my famous neighbor, the beautiful Taj Mahal. I am a giant storybook made of stone, and I hope my story makes you feel like you can build wonderful things, too.
