Amalfi Coast

I am a place where colorful houses, like a box of spilled crayons, tumble down green hills to meet the sparkly blue sea. The air smells sweet like yummy lemons and salty like the big ocean. Little white boats float on my waves like happy ducks playing in a tub. I am a warm, sunny hug. I am the Amalfi Coast in Italy.

A very, very long time ago, brave sailors lived here. Their big wooden boats would sail across the sea, looking like little specks on the big blue water. They were explorers. The boats carried special treasures, like shiny fabrics and yummy spices, to share with people in faraway places. Later on, clever people who lived here learned a secret. They learned how to make special, soft paper. They built little houses by my streams to press the paper flat and smooth. This paper was used for important letters and beautiful drawings that told wonderful stories.

Today, I am a happy place where friends and families from all over the world come to visit. They walk on my little winding streets, taste my yummy lemons that grow as big as a grown-up’s hand, and watch the sunshine dance on the water. In the year 1997, people decided I was such a special place that I should be protected forever so everyone could see my beauty. I love sharing my sunshine and happy colors with everyone. I hope you can come feel my warm hug one day.
