The story

The Fairy Chimneys of Cappadocia

The warm sun tickles my pointy stone hats. The wind whispers soft songs as it dances all around me. My hats look like big cones, like something from a giant's party. People say they look like fairy chimneys. I love my special shapes. I am Cappadocia, a magical place in a country called Turkey. It is so nice to meet you.

A long, long time ago, a big mountain breathed fire and made all my rock soft and grey. Then, the wind and the rain came to play. Gently, they carved me into the funny shapes you see today. A long time ago, in a time called the 4th century, friendly people came to live with me. They used their hands to scoop out cozy rooms inside my soft stone, just like you dig in the sand at the beach. They made little houses and special quiet places to sing. Inside, they painted beautiful pictures on my walls. They painted colorful stars and happy faces. I loved having friends live right inside my rock arms. It felt like a big, warm hug.

Now, when the sun wakes up, something amazing happens. Big, colorful balloons float up, up, up into the sky. They look like giant, happy bubbles floating all around me. So many colors. Red, yellow, and blue. People wave from little baskets below. They come to see my fairy chimneys and explore my cozy cave homes. I love showing them how the wind and friendly hands made me so special. I am here to show you that when we work with nature, we can make something wonderful together.
